We went to have breakfast in one of the little café around the Rialto Bridge before heading to Piazza San Marco, to see the place flooded at the high tide. All around the city there are some holes to allow the water to flood some places on high tide. We then walked east by the canal, going to the Castello area of the city. We had lunch in a local cantine ____ where you have to go right at the back at the bar to find the restaurant with mainly local workers inside. Spinach and meat was awesome, tuna pasta not so great. We walk around the area, see quite a bit of washing hanging outside the building, went around Arsenale de Venezia then to Cannaregio area in order to see the Jewish Ghetto before heading back to the airport. We were lucky to have a nice weather with so few people, and if you’ve never been to Venice before, well just go there, you can get cheap deals and that place is amazing!

Le lundi 18 Novembre 2013 était notre dernier jour à Venise. Nous sommes allés prendre un petit déjeuner dans un café près du pont du Rialto avant de nous diriger vers la place Saint Marc. Avec la marée haute, la place est inondée, comme c’est le cas pour une partie des places de la ville, des ouvertures étant aménagées pour laisser l’eau monter. Nous avons ensuite marché le long de l’eau vers le quartier de Castello. Pour le déjeuner nous sommes allés dans une cantine à l’arrière d’un bar où les travailleurs locaux se retrouvent pour le déjeuner. Le veau et les épinards étaient top par contre les pâtes au ton très moyennes. Nous nous sommes ensuite baladés un peu dans le coin qui est plus populaire avec le linge étendu entre les fenêtres, nous avons faire le tour de l’Arsenal avant de nous diriger vers le quartier de Cannaregio pour visiter le Ghetto Juif avant de retourner à l’aéroport. Nous avons eu la chance d’avoir une super temps et assez peu de touriste, et si vous n’êtes jamais allés à Venise, il est temps d’y remédier c’est une ville différente et on peut trouver de super tarifs hors saison !

We decided to try another pasticeria for the breakfast and went to Pasticceria Tonolo. This one was a bit more north than our place but well, the pastries were awesome! It was a bit crowded and we ended up at the bar by a nice Belgium couple, but we had a fresh orange juice, a really god hot chocolate and well, about a dozen pastries to share between us! If you want to have a nice breakfast or just some sweet snack, that is definitely the place to go! We walked from San Polo to Dorsoduro most of the morning and beginning of the afternoon,  coming back through the Ponte dell’Accademia to come back to San Marco and visit the Palazzo Ducale late afternoon. It is quite impressive, especially the Sala del Maggior Consiglio, which as one of the biggest painting in the world which is 22 meter longs! After this we went to Enoteca al Volto for some nice cicchettis as we skipped lunch. After another walk around San Marco we went to dinner to Ristorante Terrazza Sommariva by the Rialto Bridge. The set-up is really nice, the food is alright with fairly small plates, but be careful on the bill, it is supposed to be all included (in Italy you often have to pay for the cover charge for example) I had over 10euros of extra charges, so had to go back in an ask, the waiter fainted ignorance. We then went back to the hotel after taking some photos of the Rialto bridge.

Le deuxième jour, nous sommes allez prendre le petit déjeuner à Pasticceria Tonolo. Cette fois-ci c’était super bon, nous avons pris une dizaine de cakes pour deux avec chocolats chauds et jus d’orange frais. Nous étions au bar à côté d’un petit couple de belges qui se déplacent spécialement ici pour le petit déjeuner. Un vrai régal ! Nous avons ensuite fait une longue promenade depuis San Polo vers Dorsoduro, la plupart de la matinée et une partie de l’après-midi. Nous somme ensuite retournés à San Marco par le pont Dell’Accademia pour visiter le Palais des Doges. Très impressionnant surtout la Salle du Grand Conseil avec ses tableaux de 22 mètres de long qui sont censé être les plus grands du monde ! Nous sommes retournés prendre un petit casse-croûte à Enoteca al Volto ayant sauté le déjeuner avant de continuer à se promener dans San Marco. Pour le diner nous sommes allez au Restaurant Terrazza Sommariva au pied du Pont du Rialto. Le cadre est vraiment sympa, la nourriture est potable bien que peu copieuse, par contre attention à la facture, ils ont tendance à rajouter le prix du couvert et du service alors qu’il y a bien précisé sur la devanture qu’ils sont compris ! Nous sommes ensuite retournés à l’hôtel après quelques photos.

We went to Venice for a long weekend last year. We arrived on Saturday November 16th 2013 morning.

We went straight to Ca San Polo hotel as soon as we got out of the bus from Venice Airport. The hotel is fairly small but quite near from the center and the rooms are lovely, expect maybe the view from the window, having a wall about 2 meters away is not helping, the staff was nice and for the value I am not sure you can find better in the city! We went for a breakfast in one of the typical little bakeries that serves coffee and hot chocolate. Pasticceria Rizzardini was not really good pastry wise though. We walked around the Rialto Bridge most of the morning, seeing the markets by nearby, then went for Lunch at Enoteca al Volto across the Grand Canal. The food is quite nice over there, especially the cicchettis, and the Prosecco was really good, probably the best we had during our stay. During the afternoon we walked around San Marco, looking at all the nice Canals crowded by all the Gondolas, went to Piazza San Marco Piazza, seeing the Basilica di San Marco and the Palazzo Ducale. For the dinner we went back over San Polo for a Pizza at Antico Panificio. Apparently it is quite hard to find a good pizza in Venice and these ones were quite nice, but the Prosecco was awful! Time to go back to the hotel while taking some more photos.

Nous sommes allés à Venise pour un long weekend l’année dernière. Nous sommes arrivés le Samedi 16 Novembre 2013 au matin. A l’arrivée du bus en provenance de l’aéroport nous nous sommes dirigés vers l’hotel Ca San Polo. Bien que celui-ci soit plutôt petit, il est bien situé et plutôt central, les chambres sont mignonnes en dehors de la vue (un mur à 2 mètres de la fenêtre…) et le staff était vraiment sympa. A mon avis difficile de trouver un meilleur rapport qualité-prix à Venise de toutes les manières ! Nous sommes allé dans une des pâtisseries locales pour prendre le petit déjeuner, on peut y avoir un café ou un chocolat servi au comptoir. Par contre les biscuits de la Pasticceria Rizzardini n’étaient pas vraiment bon. Nous avons marché dans le quartier du pont du Rialto le matin, notamment les marchés, puis nous sommes allés manger à l’ Enoteca al Volto pour le déjeuner. Les cicchettis notamment y sont très bons (se sont des petits amuse-bouches plus ou moins copieux pour ceux qui ne connaissent pas), et c’est là que nous avons bu le meilleur Prosecco du weekend. Après nous sommes avons tourné dans le quartier San Marco, regardant les innombrables canaux remplis de gondoles, puis nous avons admiré la basilique Saint Marc et le Palais des Dogues sur la place Saint Marc. Pour le diner nous sommes allez à la Pizzeria Antico Panificio dans San Polo. Il est apparement difficile de manger de bonnes pizzas à Venise, mais celles-ci étaient bonnes par contre le Prosecco lui était assez horrible. Puis nous sommes rentré à l’hôtel le temps de prendre quelques photos sur le retour.
